Sustainable BasketryPresented by Wild Fibres Basketry
Sunday, 26th August 2018
12:00pm to 4:00pm
Wild Fibres basketry workshops combine traditional coil weaving practices with modern materials. They’re designed for people with no basketry skills at all, as well as those with existing skills looking to experiment with new fibres and techniques. Basketry is just as much a creative process as it is calming, social and meditative. It’s about turning off those screens, stepping back from the daily rush of life and taking time out.
This workshop is an amazing opportunity to be creative with your sustainability practices by learning how to transform plastic bags and even old t-shirts or other materials into functional and beautiful objects. With repurposed plastic bags and an array of colourful yarn, you’ll learn all the steps to making a basket, as well as two different stitches to create a variety of aesthetics. You’ll also take home a Wild Fibres Pack which includes your own chenille needle, step by step guide to basketry, fibre directory and some yarn to take home.
All you need to bring along is TWO regular plastic grocery bags from your local grocer (eg woollworths, IGA).
